Show Endurance. (Baltimore American.) The great pianists had been hammering hammer-ing the instrument for more than two days without cessation. These who passed the building could not always hear them, because they were playing still. It was an endurance contest. When the two men fell from the piano stools, exhausted, each clamored with his little remaining breath that he had played the last note, and had, therefore, won the contest. The judge looked puzzled. Suddenly a man in a front seat arose and said: "Mister. Judge, I have an idea. Have yon stayed here and listened to that blamed hammerin' for all these days and nights?" "I have," he replied, sadly.. "Then keep the prize you've sure showed the greatest endurance of the three." And the plan pleased the crowd so much that they would have it no other way. |
