Show A Gag for Anglomaniacs. The "Xew- York Times gave the other day some interesting statistics as to the character of the population pop-ulation of Xew York City. Of the 1,007,670 males 1 years or over, it finds that only one-fifth are born of native parents. Here are the tabulated figures: Natives of native parentage .l . 195.S66 Natives of foreign parentage.... 264,579 Foreign-born, naturalized 300,6fi0 Foreign-born, not fully naturalized.. :. 246.565 Total ...1,007,670 According to the Xew York Times, the total number of aliens and of citizens born pf foreign parents of the age of 21 or over in Xew York City is 811.804. Here is how they are distributed according to race affinities: j Germany ..',...232.182 Ireland 220,662 Italy 64,672 Russia ..... 60,808 England " '44.837 Austria 29.099 Scotland - 14,643 Sweden 12,742 Hungary 11.758 France , 8,953 Canada 6,788 Bohemia . - 6.37G Norway 5,707 Other countries 72,377 Total 8H.804 These figures speak foi themselves. One need only glance at them to recognize how absurd is the "Anglo-Saxon" claim so confidently put forward by those working in the British interest. It will be noted that there are about half a million German-Americans, and Irish-Americans of voting age in the American metropolis, as against 44,8-"J7 Anglo-Americans: The latter are outnumbered by Russian-Americans and Italian-Americans. In other great centers of population in the United States an 'examination of census statistics will show that the "Anglo claim" has no more substantial sub-stantial basis to rest on than it has in Xew York City. It is well to present now and then statistics -of this, kind to offset the shouting of our 'Anglo-maniacs, 'Anglo-maniacs, who never tired of proclaiming that we are a nation of "Anglo-Saxons."
