Bishon Blenk of Porto Rico writes: "My peculiar position in these trying times enables me, in a very forceful way, to look and hope for great results from the federation." Bishop' O'Conner of Newark, N. J., writes: "May every blessing and success suc-cess attend the federation and the good work you have. undertaken in the interests of holy church." Bishop Meerschaerdt of Oklahoma and Indian Territory writes: heartily endorse the American Federation Federa-tion of Catholic societies, and pray that It may prosper and continue the good so . nobly started.".' I give my episcopal blessing to the great work." Bishop Keiltey of Savannah, Ga., writes: "I am glad to believe that 'a great deal of good' can be done by the lederation, and I find that my hopes in j this direction have been more than realized so far. I hope to see branches I formed In the south, and, so far as I am concerned, will give all the aid In my power." Bishop BrondeToT Helena, Mont., writes: "How could I but favor the union of Catholic societies? In union is strength. The Catholic societies of Campbell , county, Kentucky, have organized a county federation, with twelve societies. socie-ties. Mr. Witto, supreme recording secretary of the Central Verein, and national organizer of the American federation, fed-eration, Captain Geiger and others are the principal promoters of said federation. The Oregon state council of the Catholic Knights of America unanimously unani-mously indorsed the federation and recommended to all the branches In their state that they join the movement. move-ment. The Masaschusetts" State Federation of Catholic Societies represents at present about. 50,000 members, lis officers. of-ficers. are: President, D. F. Sheehan of Boston; vice president, J. D. Werner of Roxbury; second vice president, J. O'Anthier of Cambridge; third vice president, T. F. Lynes of Amesbury; secretary, D. J. Byrne of Rixbory; chaplain, Rev. M. J. Masterson of Pea-bedy; Pea-bedy; marshal, J. E. Doran of Ames-bury. Ames-bury. At a meeting ofthe Suffolk County Federation, held at the Boston college col-lege recently, State President Sheehan spoke on the aims and objects of Catholic Cath-olic federation, and said that Archbishop Arch-bishop Williams of Boston had not only given his approval of the organization, organi-zation, but has also promised to write a letter giving his views. Archbishop W. H.Elcler of Cincinnati has promised to address the Hamilton 'county federation at its next regular meeting in January. This meeting will mark the third anniversary of the Cincinnati Cin-cinnati federation. -$- Rev. F. X. Dolan,. D.D., of the Boston Bos-ton cathedral, states that he will personally per-sonally devote all his energies towards making federation a success, and declared de-clared that the priests of Massachusetts Massachu-setts will do all in their power to further fur-ther the cause. We received word from Switzerland that the federation of that country has aireaay grown 10 zt urancnes, wun a total membership of 35,000. A general gen-eral convention of all the Catholics of Switzerland will be held next year. The recently elected officers of the Marlon county, Ind., federation are: Chaplain, Bishop D. O'Donaghue; president, presi-dent, John R. - Walsh; first vice president, presi-dent, Mrs. T. F. Barrett; second vice president, P. J. Kelleher; recording secretary, sec-retary, W. A, Gibson; corresponding and financial secretary, W. M. Fogarly; treasurer, H. J. Budenz. The Catholic Societies of Columbus, Nebraska,. have, formed a county federation. feder-ation. Theodore Moersen is the secretary. secre-tary. The Outagamie county federation of Wisconsin has'elected the following officers: of-ficers: President, J. Driscoll; vice presidents, pres-idents, N., Haupt, J. E. Verstegen and A. Lochschmidt; .-.secretary, Joseph Plank, and treasurer, G. T. Moeskes. Th Milwaukee county federation has now been permanently organized with J. E. Host, H. Cummings and J. P. Carney as officers. Mr. Otto Seifriz is the national organizer of that section, to whom much credit is due for the successful suc-cessful formation of the society. Very Rev. Shinner, vicar general; Rev. Dean Keogh of the cathedral and other prominent prom-inent clergymen of Milwaukee are warm friends and promoters of the movement. The Catholics of New York are making, mak-ing, arrangements for a big meeting in the Interest of federation, to be held next January. Meetings are also being arranged for in Philadelphia and Baltimore. Bal-timore. A county federation has been successfully suc-cessfully established at Freehold, N. J., with James Kearns as secretary. Among the prominent societies represented repre-sented are the P. C. B. A., the C. B. L. and the A. O. H. The Massachusetts A. O. H. passed the following resolution: "We recognize in the Federation of Catholic Societies the most important movement for the benefit of the Catholic people that has- . been made in recent years. We earnestly earn-estly recommend to the various divisions divi-sions throughout the state of Massachusetts Massa-chusetts that they advocate its upbuilding up-building and encourage and promote ' its interest." . !- : |
