Show HER MISSION IN LIFE. Daughter of W. J. Bryan Will Join Jane Addams. Chicago, Aug. 23. Mrs. W. J. Bryan and daughter, Miss Ruth Bryan, left tonight for their home at Lincoln, Xeb., after having spent several days in this city. One of the objects of the trip was a visit to the Hull house settlement set-tlement at Halstead and Polk streets, an institution supported -by charities for the benefit of the poorer classes and conducted by Miss Jane Addams, the noted sociologist. It is the intention inten-tion of Miss Bryan to take up settlement settle-ment work, becoming a member of the Hull house staff, early in the fall. Miss Hryan.'who is IS ypars old. is the eldest daughter of ."W. J. 'Bryan. She has been a student at the University of Nebraska Ne-braska during the past two years. She is a young woman of unlimited energy, and with an ambition to accomplish something in the way of assisting the class of children fostered by Miss Addams and otlcrs interesd in such work. Hull House was founded in a small way through the efforts of Miss Addams about ten years ago. and with the assistance of wealthy and philanthropic people has been extended in scone until it has become be-come one of the leading factors in sociological socio-logical work In the country. Miss Bryan and her mother have been deeply Interested Inter-ested in the settlement for a ion time, and while the position will involve some- : what of a sacrifice to Miss Bryan, she j feels that she will be engaged in pleas- j ant and meritorious work. |
