The local Council of the Knights of Columbus were to celebrate the anniversary anni-versary of the institution of the council last Wednesday night, but postponed their entertainment until next week, owing to the death of Mrs. P. O. Mar-ron, Mar-ron, Mr. Marron being a member of th3 council. Miss Katherine Malone, organist of St. Mary's of tho Assumption at Park City, was in the city last Wednesday. The members of the choir were pleased to welcome back John O'Connor at vespers last Sunday evening. Among the little strangers recently christened at the cathedral were the daughters of Mr. and Mrs. J. Lent, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Gollins. the young son of Mr. and Mrs. J. B. Cosgriff. ' - The Catholic Knights of America held their usual monthly meeting last Monday Mon-day night. v Master Edward Fitzpa trick, the talented tal-ented younar violinist of the cathedral choir, is ill with typhoid fever. At last accounts he was progressing well. His 1 many friends hope for his speedy recovery, re-covery, and the dear little fellow's friends are legion. . For ihe offertory and Sunday Mr. and Mi s. Al Whiteman will sing an "O Salutaris," by Weigand. The month of September is devoted to the sorrows of the Blessed Virgin. ! - IRev. Father Paul Donovan of Montreal. Mon-treal. Canada, has arrived in Salt Lake and will be attached to the tsithedral parish. Services will be held at , the t tah state penitentiary on Sunday. Miss Georgiana Alevander will be the soloist. so-loist. The choir will leave on the. 1:30 car. . - Parents are reu.eusted to send their children to the choir rehearsal, which is held every Saturday afternoon. The work done at the rehearsals is' ttrorqugli and will prove very profitable for the children, not to speak of the honor allowed al-lowed them to sing the praises of God everv Sunday. ' The non-attendance of the choir girls on Sunday, nights is discouraging- and heart-breaking. Some claim to be afraid to come, out after dark. Well, there was no kidnaping done during the past summer after dark, and there are fatners and brothers broth-ers at home who will be only too pleased to bring their young daughters and young sisters to Benediction, providing pro-viding the said daughters and 'sisters desire "to be brought." . f The members of the Children of Mary sodality received Holy Communion last Sunday at the S and 9 o'clock masses. The regular monthly meeting was held at St. Mary's academy in the afternoon. Rev. Father Morrissey will occupy the position of spiritual director for the ensuing en-suing year, while Sister Alexis, the superior su-perior of St. Mary's, will be prefect. Many are the "old girls" of St. .Mary's who fondly remember . the sodality meetings of former years, when Sister Alexis was what she is now, the tender, wise and loving counselor. An interesting feature of the services at St. Mary's last Sunday at the 11 o'clock mass was the soprano solo bv Miss Georgiana Alexander. The young lady possesses a very beautiful voice and sings with excellent expression. - Mrs. Julia McFadden and Mrs. "W. McDermott are the ladies appointed to attend to the altars this week. |
