St. Mary's church was built by Right Rev. Bishop Manogue in the year 1SG8. It was burned down during the great fire which practically destroyed this city in 1875, and from the ruins was erected this present imposing im-posing most beautiful sacred edifice In the state. It can compare favorably with any church of its size in the west. First for God's greater honor and glory and secondly to perpetuate the memory of the first rector of St. Mary's, Bishop Manogue. The Catholics, Catho-lics, with the generous assistance of non-Catholics, are working earnestly and well to raise funds to beautify the church. Virginia Eenterprise. |
