Show LEADVILLE, COLO. Events of the Week in the Great Colorado Camp. (Special Correspondence.) Leadville, Colo., Oct. 4. Since our last letter from Leadville was not thrown in the waste basket, we have been constrained to gather up a few more items, good, bad or indifferent, just as we meet them. Well, to begin, the county Democratic convention was held at the Knights of Columbus hall. The delegates from all the precincts of the city were promptly prompt-ly on hand. The famous old war horse of the mountain tops, the Honorable Peter Jennings, who for the past quarter quar-ter of a century has led the hosts to victory- and defeat, was there as usual, with the reins well in hand, and the slate made up as a sure guarantee of victory, so Peter said. Many of the cool and conservative do not agree with Peter's political conclusion. It is claimed that three of the nominees nom-inees are socialists, that some more of them are ward politicians, aJways looking look-ing for office; indeed, that the whole" ticket, to put it mildly, was not chosen with any desire to better-the conditions condi-tions of Lake county or put the honest man and sterling toiler into office. It is moated about ' that the same old gangster controlled the nominations as of yore, and that the. taxpayer must again bend his neck to that element that stands about on street corners and looks vi?. Be this as it may, nothing good can be expected from officeholders who constantly desire to live from th public crib. . ' ' |
