Show ST. MARY'S ACADEMY. Visit and Address From Hon. T. B. Minahan of New York. The event of the week in the estimation estima-tion of both faculty and student body was the informal but eloquent discourse dis-course delivered in the assembly hall Wednesday at 11 a. m. by the Hon. T. B. Minahan of Xew York. Considering Consider-ing the long journey on which he was bound from coast to coast and the brief period of his stay in Salt Lake, such a favor was one to be doubly appreciated; ap-preciated; while his genial compliance with the request of our mutual friend. Dr. M. A. Hughes-, through whose courtesy cour-tesy the lecture was secured, added to I the occasion a distinct pleasure. j In presenting Mr. Minahan as one of the foremost leaders of the Catholic movement toward union and organized efficiency. Dr. Hughes also referred to his friend's special fame as an orator remarks that like buds of promise, ilossomed. as the lecture proceeded, into perfect fulfillment. In a delightful preamble, in which he facetiously deprecated dep-recated the honor thrust upon him and unnecessarily apologized for his un-preparedness, un-preparedness, he straightway "won the hearts of his auditors, and held them spellbound throughout his splendid exposition ex-position of the principles and designs j of the cause he represents. As he j waxed eloquent on the theme In which his best efforts are evidently expended, ! one could not but realize the difference between reading about such a thing as the Federation of Catholic Societies and actually meeting the chief representative repre-sentative of such a body and hearing from hit? own lips the meaning of the organization, the spirit that actuates it, the sublime possibilities with, which it is pregnant. Several interesting facts were related showing the spirit of honest inquiry now so frequently met with regarding the Church, and which makes this a most acceptable time for i the operations of such a force as the federation indicates. Who that has i any zeal for the extension of truth and j the spread of Christ's loving good-will for all mankind can remain unmoved or indifferent in the matter, and if unable un-able to do aught else, at least pray earnestly that God's blessing may follow fol-low and prosper our noble Catholic societies and iheir zealous leader? and directors. -4 The art pupils hailed the Feast ' of St. Luke as their patronal festival and celebrated the day in the enjoyment of the customary privileges. At the luncheon served in the studio, among the artistic features that catered to the aesthetic taste while delectable viands were not wholly ignored, were the dainty dain-ty little hand-made souvenirs 'n the form of a ' palette adorned with the primary colors, which the class will henceforth carry as a distinctive emblem. em-blem. - Roll of Honor.
