Show ST. PATRICK'S DAY. Entertainment For the Orphans "Will Combine Pleasure With Charity. Tickets for the St. Patrick's day coneert con-eert are now on sale. It is expected that every Catholic in Salt Lake will take an active personal interest in the sale of tickets. It is only at Easter Christmas and the annual benefit for r ..,S; Ann's orphan asylum that the Catholics of this city are asked for contributions. There is not another diocese in America where the parishioners parish-ioners are so rarely asked for money so Salt Lake Catholics should cheerfully cheer-fully show their appreciation for the "iiMunauon always dsp ayed by Ru Rev. Bishop Scanlan for his flock. For many years, aided onlv by the self-denial of his priests and the kindness kind-ness of a few personal friends, he zealously zeal-ously struggled to care for hundreds of nomeless orphan children. Parents well know the many meds of their little ones, but how great was the bishop's endeavor God alone knows. Through the noble generositv of some noble people, St.. Ann's orphanage has recently enjoyed much prosperity, but this does not remove the responsibilitv o any Catholic in the diocese from contributing only once a year to its support. Another vital reason is that a'l church fairs are prohibited in the diocese: so the annual concert in March is the only time that any extra contribution is requested. Anyone who ever attended a church fair will remember that he spent more money jn live minutes there than he would spend for an entire theatre sea son. Those who attend the St. Patrick's Pat-rick's concert will receive the worth of their money. The affair will be unique, something quite different from' that of former years. Nearly 100 children chil-dren will take part, some of the children chil-dren being professionals, pupils of Professor Pro-fessor Landrum, an artist of merit in our midst. The little ones of the St. Mary's choir will not be behind the professionals. They will appear in some pretty drills and many sweet little lit-tle voices will be heard. Some of the I tiny ones are only three years old and ' one wee soloist is not yet three. The children will also be assisted by some of Salt Lake's best talent. Let everv Catholic of this city take an active interest in this coming en-I en-I tertainment: the ladies alone can make t it a toier-ess hv their effni-f 1r sell tickets, and what better way can there be to spend the quiet Lenten days than by doing the work particularly blessed by God, that of caring for the orphaned little ones? |
