Show BUTTE CITY. Young Men's Institute Celebrate Washington's Birthday. The institute and a host of its friends met in the Y. M. I. rooms Friday. Feb. 21, to celebrate Washington's birthday, which is also Y. M. I. day. The parlors, with the bunting, llags. ferns, etc.. made a very fine appearance, and many remarks of admiration were made re ' garding the artistic decorations. A verv large oil painting of "Washington, "Washing-ton, "handsomely draped, attracted much attention. Even the little ! hatchet was not forgotten. The following was the programme, every item of which was rendered in such an excellent manner as to be long remembered by all nresent: Song. "1 Cannot Say Goodbye" Mrs. Donnelly. For an encore. The guests popped corn, made popcorn balls and ended the festivities by singing and dancing. Mr. and Mrs. Jack Sullivan were happily surprised by a number of Mr. Sullivan's companions in the mine, their wives and sweethearts. sweet-hearts. The crowd mpt with Mrs. Hake Cassy and from there proceeded in a. hilarious crowd to the Sullivan homo on East Park. The Sullivans said afterward they thought a strike of some kind had been declared. Everyone Every-one carried a basket filled with good things, which were carefully laid away until a late hour. The music of several sev-eral guitars and mandolins enabled the merry-makers to dance, which they did with hearty good will. Between dances they played cards and enjoyed musical mu-sical selections, singing and instrumental. instru-mental. Those who did not dance had just as good a time as those who did. The surprises did not come empty-handed. empty-handed. A handsome cut glass decanter de-canter and a dozen glasses, a cut water wa-ter pitcher and a dozen glasses, several sev-eral pieces of silverware and china, were presented to the greatly surprised host and hostess. At a late hour, very late, the good things brought were served, and it was well that the presents included so many glasses, for they were needed. The guests lingered long at the tables and with reluctance said good-bye. one of them just in time to "go on shift." In the party were: Mr. and Mrs. Jack Sullivan. Mr. and' Mrs. Tim Sullivan. The Butte Business college basket ball team was defeated in an exciting game at tbe Auditorium last Saturday afternoon by the team from the Parochial Paro-chial school' by a score of 17 to ;". This game makes Saturday's victorious team the champions of the state as far as percentage is concerned. The team has won three games played and has a percentage of 1.000. while the Helena team is second with tb? same percentage, percent-age, but it was gained in the only game that team has played and in which it was victorious. James Brennan, aired 2" years, died Friday. Feb. 21. The funeral took place Sunday at 2 p. m. from the residence resi-dence of his unelo James Brennan. 810 North Montana street, proceeding to Saint Lawrence church, where services were held. The deceased was a member mem-ber of Division No. 1. A. O. H., and that body attended the funeral. The funeral of Lawrence Murray, who is a brother of Mayor Murray of Walkcrvillc. took id ace from the residence resi-dence of his mother. 115 West Daly street. where his death occurred Saturday. Sat-urday. The remains were taken to St. I awrence church, where services were held. Interment at St. -Patrick's cemetery. |
