Show Mixed Marriage Dispensations. The Sacred Congregation of Propa- j ganda, through Cardinal Gibbons, has I recently addressed a letter to the Archbishop of tlje United States,' requesting re-questing that the ordinaries insist in all cases upon definite and adequate information in-formation regarding the circumstances which demand dispensation from ca-noni"al ca-noni"al impediments to marriage, before be-fore granting such dispensation. They are likewise to require documentary docu-mentary evidence (or its equivalent) regarding the actual reception of baptism bap-tism by the non-Catholic party in the case of all applicants for dispensation from the impediment of diverse religious reli-gious profession (mixtae religionis). A marriage of a Catholic with a non-Catholic non-Catholic who erroneously assumes that he or she is baptized, remains invalid If the dispensation is granted unc'.er the false assumtpion that there exists merely a prohibitory impediment arising aris-ing from different religious profession between two baptized persons one of ! whom. is not a Catholic, when in reality real-ity the impediment is annulling, that is to say, one of disparity of faith he tween a baptized and an unbaptized person. This implies that parties to a mixed marriage must secure all available proof, in writing or by sworn testi- mony, as to the baptism of the non-Catholic non-Catholic party,- before they can legitimately legiti-mately secure the desired dispensation.
