Show Cardinal Gibbons Protests. His Eminence Cardinal Gibbons has sent to State Senator Campbell, of Maryland, a letter protesting strongly against the design of the proposed fountain to be erected at Annapolis to commemorate the establishment of civil and religious liberty in Maryland. The design contains the figures of a priest, a cavilier and a puritan. In his letter the Cardinal said: "I am unalterably opposed to the erection of any figures on the fountain except the figures of Lord Baltimore, to whom we are indebted for the priceless price-less boon of civil and religious liberty." |
