Show Italian Consul Honored. The Children of Mary of Logan Avenue Ave-nue chapel held a meeting Sunday aft-ternoon aft-ternoon to arrange for a reception of new members on the feast of the Itn-maculate Itn-maculate Conception. Count Pasquale Corte. ltali.tn consul at Denver, was the recipient last week of a signal honor, and one much coveted covet-ed by all subjects of the Austro-Hun-garian government. It is the cross of the Order of Franz Joseph. This was conferred upon Count Corte in recognition recogni-tion of the great service he has rendered ren-dered in looking after Austrians in this consular jurisdiction, where Austria has no official representative. Last Sunday Count and Madam Corte entertained at luncheon in honor of Leoncavallo. During the afternoon the presidents of the Italian societies, the city officials and prominent citizens called informally. At the public service held in Broad-May Broad-May theatre Thursday morning. Rev. William O'Ryan. pastor of St. Leo's church, delivered a most eloquent discourse dis-course on "The People of Our Nation." Other speakers were Governor McDonald. McDon-ald. Rev. Henry A. Buchtel. governor-elect; governor-elect; Mayor Speer and Rabbit Friedman. Fried-man. The splendid music which was a feature fea-ture of the day, was furnished by St. Leo's choir, under the able direction of Professor Menzies. The soloists were Miss Bertie Berlin, Mrs. Bertha Cotter. Professor Menzies and Mr. James E. Grant. Wedding Bells. From Los Angeles comes the news cf a wedding that was a great surprise to Denver friends. Mrs. Agnes O'Hearn was married in that city on Wednesday Wednes-day of last week to Mr. C. W. Ruber, president of the Lebanon Slate bank, at Lebanon, Mo. The ceremony was performed by Rev. Father Hartnett of the cathedral in Los Angeles, and was witnessed by only a few intimate friends. The honeymoon will be spent in California. Before proceeding' to their future home in Missouri, Mr. and Mrs. Rubey will visit friends in Denver Den-ver during the holidays. Mrs. Rubey. while in Denver, made her home at 2116 Grant avenue, and was an active worker work-er in the Sacred Heart Ladies' Aid society. so-ciety. She left here a few months ago for a. visit to the coast. Rev. Father O'Ryan went up to Boul der this week to officiate at the marriage mar-riage of Miss Sallie Harkness Corning, to Nathaniel A. Black of Topeka, Kan. i The wedding occurred Wednesday evening. Dec. 5. Mrs. Black is a daughter of the late George C. Corning Corn-ing of Denver, and is very well known here. Mr. and Mrs,. Black will make their home in Topeka. |
