Colo. ; St. Vincent's Aid Society. St- Vincent's Orphans' Aid society met Tuesday afternoon, March 2, at the . home of Mrs. John A. Flynn, 382 Clark- street. The officers elected at the last regular meeting wore inducted into office. They were: President. Mrs. William Wil-liam Saycr; first vice president. Mrs. J. A. Flynn; second vice president, Mrs. J- Dunn; recording- secretary. Miss Mary A. Kelly; corresponding secretary, "Mrs. A. Y". McGillvray; treasurer. Mrs. P. Ti. Rlordan. Death of Mrs. Hubbard. I A high mass of requiem was sung in Logan Avenue chapel on Monday, jj March 1. by. Rev. H. L. McMenamin, I for the repose of the soul of Mrs. Anne I McCallin. who had been connected with the society since its inception. The at-I at-I tendance at mass was very large, and many received Holy Communion for the departed member. j j Rev. Father Malonc to Preach. 'i On Wednesday, March 11. Father j Thomas H. Malone. wh,o is here from I New York City for a visit with his sis- I ter. Mrs. John J. Ryan, will deliver a f lecture at the Woman's club building on Christian Knighthood." One of the best Lenten sermons ever preached in j Denver was Father Malone's effort of i last Sunday at St. Leo's church. Forty Hours' Devotion. f The Forty Hours' devotion was begun ; at St. Dominic's church with high mass 1 , last Sunday. A hundred little children I j followed the clergy in procession from , ; the main altar to a repository on the ! hide after mass. A singularly e'oqucnt and touching srrmon was preached by Father Francis O'Neil and pastor. Church Notes. Father John B. White of Cripple Creek is at Mercy hospital in Denver, not seriously ill, but indisposed. Father V J. H. Tettemer, who has been spending -, the winter in Denver with his brother, took care of Father White's parish in his absence. ' I I Father Meyers, pastor of the Catholic 1 c hurch at Krcmmling was in Denver for I a day or two this week. His little I charge is growing steadily. East Eighteenth Eight-eenth avenue, a prominent., and foal-' foal-' hub member of the Altsr and Posary society of the cathedral parish, died on Monday morning of this week. The body was shipped on Tuesday to St. Joseph, Jo-seph, Mo. The proceeds of the recent social and dance given by the Altar and Rosary society of the cathedral parish amounted amount-ed to $200 over and above all expenses incurred. Those who pushed the affair are much gratified. The Immaculate Conception High I school students are already preparing I for commencement day. The class of J 1909 includes the Misses Brynes, Eva 1 . Dillon and Rose Tracy. I , 'V. I t The annual Lenten pastoral letter of I ' s"" Bishop N. C. Matz, directed to Catho- .' 1 . lies throughout the state, will bo read in all churches of the diocese next Sunday. Sun-day. It is said that the bishop will deal with the subject-of mied marriages. On the first Thursday following Easter, East-er, which this year falls on April 11, there will be a parish social for the advancement ad-vancement of sociability among the members of the cathedral parish. El Jebel temple has been engaged for the occasion, and Lohmanns orchestra will furnish the music. Next Sunday is envelope collection day for the cathedral parish. Father McMenamin. the pastor, still entertains the hope of bringing the amount up to $500. The Sacred Heart Aid society is preparing pre-paring to give a card party at Da Pron hall on St. Patrick's day. Handsome prizes have been donated. |
