Show -j If tho Indian war paint is considered a mark of barbarism, what shall we say of our college graduates who paint their juniors with their class numerals ? Recently at Cornell university' the sophomores sopho-mores of that institution wreaked vengeance on the freshmen. It happened this way. The freshmen were to have their annual banquet. Before they could participate in their enjoyment they fell captives cap-tives into the hands of their seniors. The sophomores sopho-mores marched their prisoners, fantastieally dressed and having as headgear cuspidors, through theh town. Nor was this all. They painted their cheeks with their class number, " "07." But it happened hap-pened that the paint contained natrate of silver, which is likely to leave an indelible mark on the young freshmen. If this is civilization, then our Indians are surpassed. Truly has it been said that "between tho sublime and the ridiculous there is but one step." |
