Show BOISE, IDA. j PRELATES GRACE BANQUET. Elegant Spread Tendered Distinguished Distin-guished Visiting Bishops and Others at Idanha. The most elaborate banquet ever j served in this city was that given at j the Idanha Tuesday of last week by the-. Knights of Columbus in honor of the visiting bishops who had come to Boise to officiate at the laying of the corner- j stone for St. John's cathedral. In addition to the clergy the state officers were present and enjoyed the function. The menu card and program of toasts was an exquisite eight-page booklet done in the highest style of the printer's art. After the sumptuous repast had been discussed. "Our Church and Our Country." was a theme e-ailing forth highest patriotic impulse and the bishop was more than equal to the occasion. He said there is no conflict con-flict between the church and the state, and that no taxes should be more willingly will-ingly paid than the school taxes. The bishop is noted for the strong stand he has taken in favor of temperance and a mention of that subject was made. , . . Bishop O'Dea made an eloquent address ad-dress on the "Knights of Columbus. Father Dempsev spoke on our religious communities. Judge Ailshie spoke entertainingly en-tertainingly on "Our Country and Our President." "The Visiting Bisnops was the subject of Abbot Thomas very pleasant address. Governor Gooding spoke, on Idaho, the Gem of the Mountains." Owing to the illne-ss of Mrs. Hawley. Jess B. Hawley left for points east last, Light on legal business. Hugh McMann, who owns one of the largest ranches e-n Camas prarie. and is onqf the prominent-stockmen of that section, has arrived and will spend the winter here He moved his family here early in September that his children might attend school. Mr. and Mrs. J. O'Donneil have returned re-turned to Portland after spending two weeks here visiting friends. |
