Show Has Three Martyrs. Cardinal Lavigerie's Missionary society, socie-ty, the White Fathers, as hey are familiarly fa-miliarly called, is very young in the church, but already it , has three martyrs, mar-tyrs, the cause of whose beatiflcat.on has been introduced at Rome. These young men. Fathers Philip Menoret, Alfred Al-fred Paulmler and Peter Bouchand, were trained for the missions of the Sahara Sa-hara in Algiers, under the eyes of the cardinal, who also ordained them to the priesthoad. While on their way to Tim-bucto, Tim-bucto, Africa, in January, 1876, they were put to death by the natives for whose conversion they had hoped to labor. la-bor. Cardinal Lavigerie's letter to the families of the martyrs announcing the news which was at once their sorrow and their glory, has 'been piously preserved; pre-served; and it is given in the October number of the Annals of the Propoga-tion Propoga-tion of the Faith. |
