Show Knights of Columbus at Lagoon. Tuesday was one of the "big"' days of the season at the "Prettiest Spot in Utah," the occasion being the first annual an-nual outing of the Knights of Columbus. Colum-bus. About 2,000 people, including the members of the fraternal organization organiza-tion and their many friends, visited the beautiful resort during the day, and fiom all standpoints the outing was considered one of the most enjoyable and successful held at the Lagoon this season. This outing, which in succeeding years is to be an annual event., is in commemoration of Father Escailante, the first white man to come to this section, sec-tion, and after whom Escailante valley val-ley is named. During past years the name of this great explorer has received re-ceived but little attention, but now the Catholics intend to bring it to the front by holding yearly celebrations ii his honor. In addition to this, the Very Rev. W. R. Harris. D. D.. of this city is publishing a Catholic history of Utah, in which he tells of the wonderful wonder-ful explorations of Father Escalante. An elaborate program was prepared for the occasion, and from start to finish was carried out without a mar of any kind. Numerous contests were pulled off, consisting of a score of various va-rious kinds of races, fast .walking and slow walking, high jumping, broad jumping and every other kind of jumping, rowing, swimming, dancing and waltzing. The winners of the contests con-tests were awarded substantial prizes. A feature of the afternoon was a baseball base-ball game between Ogden Council No. 7777 and Salt Lake Council No. 602. the former easily winning the handsome silver cup donated by George Doyle by a score of 20 to 8. In the evening the Very Rev. Dean Harris made an address on the subject. sub-ject. "On the Trail of the Spanish Pioneers," his remarks being in line with tile explorations of Father Escalante, Esca-lante, and represented an interesting development of Dean Harris' searches relative to the early explorers of this section. Both addresses were most enthusiastically received. Every one of the 203 youngsters who were present in charge of Miss Nora Gleason and the young girls of the St. Cecilia choir, as the guests of the Knights of Columbus, heaved a sigh of repletion as they left the banquet which had been spread for them. All the children from both the St. Ann's and the State street orphanages went to Lagoon, where they passed a day which they will remember all their lives. Through the kindness of Senator Sen-ator Simon Bamberger the children were given rides on the lake and on the roller coaster, free transportation to Lagoon, and Joseph S.
