The children from St. Ann's and State J street orphanages were in the sole I ( hartre of the vouns; pirls of the St. I Cecelia chorus at Lagoon on Tuesday, I and the affair was the best managed in I years. We regret not knowing the names of the two other little girls who I asked to help. The young girls will I have entire charge of the banquet giv- - " en to the St. Ann's on Altar society day at Saltair. The committees will be appointed next week. Handsome badges will be given the young singYrs and the day under their management will surely be happy for the little St. ' - Ann's folks. J Rev. Father Cushnahan at Lagoon. j Bey. The tickets for Altar society day will J he given out after all the masses" next 1 , Sunday. The Altar society will get a I commission on every ticket sold, and it I seems that every member of the St. J Mary's parish could sell twenty-five I each, anyhow, with a little effort an immense commission will be given if f-.OOO are sold. This will mean that if I ' fifty people sold 100 tickets, the 5,000 I will be sold. GET BUSY! j Will Sing Sunday. Miss Florence and Miss May O'Xeil j will sing an "Ave Maria," by La Hache, I a' the 11 o'clock mass on Sunday. )' Services at the Prison. Services were held at the prison last Sunday. Rev. Father W. K. Ryan preached, as he always does, a grandly I eloquent sermon, and the music by the I choir was splendid. Gifted Vocalist at St. Mary's. I All who attended Vespers on Sunday evonir.g certainly had a treat in hear- I ing the cifted contralto soloist. Miss I Julia O'Connor, who has been the guest I f Mrs. A. H. S. Bird for the past two j weeks. Mist O'Connor is gifted with a I remarkably fine contralto voice. She I sang an "Ave Maria," by Luzzi, and I "O Salutaris," by Bordese. Both of $ these solos were beautiful in the ex- i treme. Miss O'Connor is the contralto I soloist of St. Leo's church, Now York, j the church of which Father Ducey is I pastor. Visiting Clergy. I Father I. A. Barry of New Haven I la., and Father J. J. O'Erien of Rice- I villo. la., who ar returning home after a tour of the Pacific coast, spent a couple of days in Salt Lake as the gucis of their old Iowa friends, Mr. and Mrs. John Griffin. Distinguished Prelates in Salt Lake. Rt Rev. Mgr. P. Hartnett, V. G., of the diocese of Los Angeles, and Father Barron, who left last week for the Yellowstone Yel-lowstone park, arrived in this city last Wednesday and left on Thursday for San Francisco. Very Rev. Dean Harris Goes East. Very Rev. Dean Harris left for Toronto To-ronto this week. He will be absent one month. During his absence Father McGuire, who arrived last Sunday from Newfoundland, will be chaplain at St. Ann's orphanage. K. of C. Meeting. The regular meeting of the Knights of Columbus will be held next Tuesday Tues-day evening. |
