Show CITY PLANS FOR FUTURE. At an international conference on city and town planning held in London Lon-don last week, Eugene Ilenard, city architect of Paris, made some striking predictions in regard to the arrangement arrange-ment and management of public utilities, utili-ties, etc. He thinks there will be a revolution in road and street building, build-ing, and that underground passageways passage-ways will be a prominent feature. A system of vacuum cleaning pipes for house and street cleaning will be adopted, also a network of pines for supplying liquid air for refrigeration purposes. He also thinks that petrol, or liquid bitumen, will supersede coal for house purposes. The whole system of streets will be constructed at a considerable con-siderable distance above the ground level. His idea is to depress railway tracks and elevate the streets, instead of vice versa. |
