Show TERCENTENARY' OF ST. CHARLES The present year marks the tencen-tenary tencen-tenary of the canonization of St. Charles Borromeo. The fact that His Holiness Pius X made this event the occasion of a recent encyclical is an evidence of the interest taken in this great reformer and saint. It is not I surprising then that the parish which I bears his name should make unusual preparations for the fitting celebration celebra-tion of the feast day, which will be observed on the first Sunday of November. No-vember. Under the direction of the pastor, the Right Rev. Monsignor Francis H. Hall. D. D.. a visitation of the parish is being made in order that the spirit of the patron saint may permeate per-meate even the darkest corners and. that the light of his teachings be shet upon them. On the evenings of November No-vember 2. 3 and 4. a triduum will be held, the preachers being the Rev. John B. Reilly. the Rev. John M. Flynn of St. Charles, the Rev. Thomas J. Lynch of St. Joseph's seminary. On Sunday, November 6. solemn pontifical mass will be celebrated bv the Right Rev. Thomas F. Hickey, D. D., bishop of Rochester, assisted bv the Very Rev. Monsignor William G. Murphy, assistant priest; the Rev. John M. Flynn, deacon, and the Rev. John'B. Reilly, sub-deacon. The sermon ser-mon will be preached by the Right Rev. Monsignor Brann, pastor of St. Agnes' church. In the evening solemn sol-emn vespehs will be sung and a sermon ser-mon preached by the Rev. William B. Martin of St. Patrick's cathedral. The music at mass and vespers will be specially arranged, and will be rendered ren-dered by the famous boys' choir under un-der the direction of Professor "Charles A. Hanschell. j |
