Show HELENA, MONT. The exercises incident to the laying of the corner stone of the monument to the memory of General Thomas Francis Meacher are to be held during dur-ing the state fair week, the exact date to be fixed by the association that is raising the funds for the erection of the monument. Work on the excavation for the foundation foun-dation for the monument is to begin at once, the measurements haying been made yesterday by State Engineer John W. Wade at the request of Charles Lane and Ja-mes Walsh, who came over from Butte yesterday. Mr. Walsh has the contract for building the base of the monument, and it is his purpose to begin the work immediately. The monument or, more strictly speaking, the bronze equestrian statue is to stand in the walk leading from Sixth avenue to the main entrance to the state capitol, the spot chosen being be-ing about midway between the avenue and the steps to the main entrance. Ti e foundation w ill , be fifteen feet in width and twenty-one and one-half feet in length, and will be constructed of granite taken from the Welsh quarries at Walsh's Spur, on the Northern Pacific Pa-cific in Jefferson county. It is the. purpose of the Meagher Memorial association to have the unveiling un-veiling -of the statue on the Fourth of July next.
