Show THAT WHISPERED WORD (iBy James MoPherson Shockley, Sugar Station, Salt Lake City, Utah.) One night from troubled dream 1 woke Inside a pri.son cell; and there Upon my narrow bed, I heard A voice as if an angel fair Had spoken softly just one word; Arise. - A moment passed. In fear I lay With bated breath and throbbing heart A strange faint hope surged through me though. . It came again and 'twas apart From earth's discord that whisper low: Arise. Still doubting, but with heart more calm, I peered into the gloom throughout The cell; then, sitting upright, heard OAs from within, yet from without) What seemed the echo of that word Arise. 'lArise?" I questioned, wondering "Wherefore should I with foul disgrace dis-grace Arise? And whence that single word Tonight within this darksome place?' Still, though, as echo faint 1 heard: Arise. I pondered long that whispered word. The morning broke; and then from fear I passed to hope 4 understood: That whisper of the night was clear From shadows of the past I could Arise. |
