Show Farm Practice Is I&evised Soil Conserving Crops Reduced To Allow More Land For Sugar Beets Announcement of farming prac tices which Franklin 'county suga: beet producers may use to qualify for benefit payments under tin 1942 sugar beet program were an nounced this week by Quince Rici t member of the county AAA com mittee in charge of the sugar pro gram. Only half as much acreage a: formerly will be required to be de voted to approved soil-conservinj practices in 1942 in order to quali fy acreage planted to sugar beets The committeeman said the re duction should release additiona land for the production of beets and other "war crops" needed ir the 1942 Food for Freedom pro gram. Practices, which remain the same as last year, follow: Maintaining or seeding adapted perennial or biennial legumes oi grasses or mixtures of such le gumes or grasses; plowing undei an adapted green manure crop; oi application of animal or commercial commer-cial fertilizer. One half acre of any of the practices prac-tices except seeding of alfalfa, carried car-ried out in accordance with good farming methods used in the community, com-munity, will qualify one acre of su-gar su-gar beets Seeding of one-half acre of alfalfa in 1942 will qualify two acres of sugar beets As much as 75 per cent of the practice requirement require-ment for a beet acreage planted on a field-rented tract may be carried out on the remaining portion of the farm of which the rented tract ordinarily or-dinarily would be a. portion. Other requirements to be met in 1942 in qualifying for sugar benefit ben-efit payments under the 1937 Su gar Act include non-use of child labor la-bor and payment of not less than the minimum wage rates established establish-ed by the secretary for production and harvest of the 1942 crop. Rates for spring labor in the production of the beets were announced an-nounced several weeks ago.
