Show Members 11 of Parowan I 1 Stake Receive Commendation The feature article of the Church Section of the January Issue of the Deseret News dealing with I the beautification program at the St St. George Temple highly complimented complimented complimented the people of Parowan Stake for their part in the pro pro- gram The article 1 is as follows I IThe The Church beautification program program pro pro- gram moved this past year rear to the St. St George Grorge Temple where in addition addition addition ad ad- to the improvements and re remodeling remodeling remodeling re- re modeling of the building carried on onby onby onby by the Ute Church there was a program program program pro pro- gram of beautification and landscaping landscaping landscaping land land- of the grounds directed principally by the stakes of the Temple district Irvin T. T Nelson Salt Lake landscape landscape landscape land land- architect who vino was in charge of the ground work and has done much to assist the general Church Beautification Committee has written written written writ writ- ten of the accomplishments of the brief explanation in praise of their Church members the following efforts In the program of Improvement now going forward on the St. St George Temple grounds the people people people peo peo- of Southern Utah have given I mo most t freely of themselves It is a though they feel frel that in making Ute the grounds worthy of this beautiful Temple dedicated to the Lord they are performing an act of worship It has not been j I enough Just to give as to any or ordinary ordinary or- or cause Here they have la labored labored la- la labored bored with their hands and given glnn from their hearts Among those who have been most generous are the people of the Parowan Stake Under the leadership leadership leadership lead lead- of President Wm R R. Palmer they have contributed evergreens valued at over 1400 I More than trees came from Cedar Mountain Some of them are Colorado Blue Spruce and the others oth oth- ers are arc Rocky Mountain Red Cedar The blue spruce range in height I from one to seven feet fret and in color from deep drep green to subtle blues They are beautifully shaped and branched close to the ground The Junipers are arc some of the most beautiful in shape and color ever er brought from these flat nat topped I mountains Undoubtedly they are I extra choice specimen of this rare varlet variety variety the the the foliage is very lacy and deep blue President Palmer and a number of associates made two trips into the canyon taking two full days to locate these trees Tills This preliminary work assured good specimens and saved sa the time of the men who did the digging and hauling On the appointed day a large group of men with the necessary trucks for hauling as assembled tomake to tomake tomake make the trip into the canyon Both Hoth trucks and labor were cheerfully cheerfully cheerfully cheer cheer- fully donated The day was one oneo oneo o of o pleasure and brotherly coopers coopers- tion The equivalent of 18 days work and a car and truck for three da days s 's was given by Cedar City menThe menThe menThe men The spruce were the gift of KUmen KUmen Kumen Ku KU- men Jones and the Junipers were given by Kenneth Macfarlane Among a certain sect in India flowers play an Important part inthe In Inthe inthe the religious service For Por these flowers to be acceptable they must not be casually picked by the roadside roadside roadside road road- side or bought at a flower lower market but they must be raised In the garden garden garden gar gar- gar gar- den of the one who offers them This brings us to another part lart of our story In Cedar City there were se several several sev- sev eral cral people who were anxious tomake to tomake tomake make this same truly acceptable gift girt Large friendly trees from their own 11 dooryards were ere contributed contrib contrib- I by the following Mr and and Mrs John C. F Higbee Mr and Mrs Roy RoyWood RoyWood RoyWood Wood and Mr and Mrs Howard Chamberlain I When a man plants a little ev ev- evergreen evergreen evergreen by his house and watches It put forth its yearly growth and seeing it as part of his home picture picture picture pic pic- ture In sunshine and in snow drinking in its on sad days and on joyous ones that tree becomes a part of him In giving It away he Is truly giving something something some some- thing of himself These big trees that have been donated will wm be dug this winter The balls of dirt will be allowed to freeze about the roots and In Inthis tills this state they will be hauled to St. St George and quickly planted The trucks fo for hauling and labor fOr for digging will wil be contributed The temple grounds will m be the ten-acre ten altar where these offerings will be placed The work of Mr Nelson and the Ute contributions of the people of the Parowan Stake demonstrates the spirit of cooperation which exists In the church Welfare Program of f which the beautification projects are a part The neighborliness and friendship exhibited by the people of these communities are typical of Mormon towns in hi all parts of the state |
