Show Benefit Payments Exceed Last Year "Benefit payments in November, 1940, exceeded by $39,879 the amount paid in November, 1939" reports Samuel D. Hays, Execu tive Director. "This year, during November, $95,626 was distributed to unemployed workers throughout the state as compared to $55,747 during November 1939. Last month a total of 2150 workers were thrown out of employment and filed claims for benefits. A majority ma-jority of the benefit claims filed came from the northern part of the state and principally from workers employed in the lumbering industry. indus-try. Wet, stormy weather in the forests of northern Idaho has made it difficult to continue logging operations op-erations and several logging camps have closed at least temporarily. "Several orders have been received," re-ceived," reports Mr. Hays, "during the past few weeks for skilled workers in construction and aircraft air-craft industries in connection with National Defense Projects on the Pacific Coast and at army camps There appears to be a shortage ol labor in some of the skills required in these industries.
