Show THE wickedness OF ZION FRIDAY oct ath the second day of conference apostle john W taylor greatly surprised and startled all the people throughout Z zion I 1 on and shocked their finer sensibilities when he declared from the pulpit in the tabernacle that nine out of every every ten of the young women of the city have lost their virtue and that members of the tabernacle choir attended the meetings of the choir for immoral purposes and are frequenters of houses of assignation ignation asa apostle taylor also declared that in in many other sections of the state the people have permitted the evil spirit or the prince princ e of darkness to lead them astray and that immorality was flourishing to a greater ex kent than it has heretofore or words to that effect these thee statements falling from the lips of one of the leading apostles of the mormon church created a great deal of comment among the vast audience which had assembled in the tabernacle on that occasion and among all classes of people of this city and all parts of the state many condemned the apostle for giving expression to his ideas pertaining to the morality of the people of zion apostle taylor apparently was very much grieved and pained by the criticisms which was heaped upon him by the members of the choir and the people in general and on sunday morning he apologized to the choir for the remarks which he had made in reference to their r virtue and he declared that they were as pure pare as a new born babe or as angels which is conclusive clu sive proof that apostle taylor did not speak peak by bv inspiration when he declared on friday that some of the members of the choir were ii impure n it is clearly evident to every man who is able to count ten that apostle taylor did not speak under the direct influence and by the express command of the lord on friday for if he had been voicing the lords sentiments at that time it would have been unnecessary for him to have modified or changed his bin vie views on S sunday furthermore it is self evi dent to all men that the apostles and priests of all religious denominations are simply laboring under an erroneous idea whenever they claim or pretend that they have been divinely ordained to carry 0 out ut the plans and purposes of the i gods here upon this earth and that they speak by inspiration if the moral condition of the people of this state date is as bad as it has ha been represented to be then we believe A i would be a mighty good idea to have those in auth authority arity aft recall all those who are engaged in foreign missionary labors labon and permit them to spend their time and energy eberg Y in in endeavoring to cleanse and purify the moral atmosphere of utah |
