M NIELSEN Superintendent of Tooele County Schools The schools of Tooele county occupy a unique place in the school system of the state of Utah The county school district covers approximately square miles being about bout miles long 75 miles wide including fertile sections sheep and cattle ranges mines smelting plants and vast salt and potash de de- posits Two transcontinental railroads railroads railroads rail rail- roads run through the district and with the resources mentioned above furnish the taxable property from which the schools receive their revenue revenue revenue reve reve- nue for maintenance The school population of the dir die netis net ct is 2289 There are twenty schools in inthe inthe inthe the district ranging from teacher one-teacher schools to a teacher seventeen-teacher school with a total number of 86 teachers employed Tooele county school district ranks rank among the richest districts of the state based on school population per capita assessed valuation The assessed assessed as as- sensed valuation of the district for Hn 1 ona toJ nn 00 UTa With a n 1 4 was wu A I w school population for that year of ol 2125 the te per capita assessed valuation valuation valuation tion will be found to be bee approximately proximately This is unusually unusually high when I compared with most other districts of the state I The local school tax levy for the maintenance of schools is among the I lowest in the state During the years is s a credit to the town and provider provide most excellent opportunities for grade school development A new high school building is to be erected In Grantsville in 1927 The Tho special tax for this building has al already already already al- al ready been voted will be collected this fall all and placed on interest to the credit of the building fund until it is needed for the new structure There are many other smaller but butine fine ine school buildings in other parts too oo numerous to mention However it t may be well to call can attention to the tho fact act that Tooele county has hus some of the he finest and best room one-room schools in n the state both from the standpoint of building and instruction one or two wo of them having been pronounced by hy state officials the best in the state One of the largest grade schools of the he district was classed by an expert from rom the federal education department department depart depart- ment recently as one of the best schools in the state In this school will be found a combination of the platoon type of school the individual Instruction and the group instruction plans the method which seems best beat besto to o suit suit the situation being used Some Sonio outstanding work in problems of pupil development was in Uris school during the year just closed and anda a continuation of this thi work for the ensuing year promises even still greater achievement The teaching force of the county is composed of an energetic group of people all doing their best to give their their pupils all the development possible possible possible ble during the school year All teachers teach teach- ers are arc properly certificated and prepared prepared prepared pre pre- pared for Cor their work In the remotest w k t SADDLE PONIES ON THE TIIE FARM OF OP A.
