junction point of the Western Pacific railway The salt is obtained from the lake water and pumped into evaporating evaporating evaporating orating ponds where the salt is deposited deposited deposited de de- posited and then harvested into large piles during the fall and winter months for the next years year's use From to tons are are obtained in this manner each year and shipped to all points in the western part of the United States Flux a lime quarry and Dolomite a lime mill are located six and nine m mil miles i 1 e s respectively northwest of Grantsville and are operated by the Utah Lime and Stone company of ol Salt Lake City These together with Burmester furnish employment to a number of ol men during the entire year and preference is given to people having having hav hav- ing their residence at Grantsville The deposit of l lime rock at these two quarries is of the finest quality and in addition to the rock used at the sugar factories and smelters a very high grade of calcium lime is pro pro- Salduro four eighty miles west of Grantsville on the Victory highway is the site of a large plant built for the extraction of potash salt anc anI other products from the water lin lying just under the surface of the Great American desert This vast expanse e of land contains untold wealth in the form of magnesium chloride and other otheT chemicals in addition to the salt and potash Magnesi Magnesium m chloride is bein being meta used in the manufacture of a metal claimed to be stronger than steel and and lighter than aluminum The Utah Utah- Salduro company has an immense tract of patented land located on and adjoining the salt beds These beds of salt from three to twelve feet deep are about five miles wide and thirteen miles in length Wendover on the Utah-Nevada Utah line is a freight division point of the Western West Western em ern n Pacific railway and the population Is is composed mostly of railway em em- It is also the junction point of the Gold Hill lull railway and the Western Pacific Ibapah section better known as the Deep Creek valley is situated in the extreme southwest corner of Tooele county This valley is particularly adapted to stock raising and farming The agricultural portion is from two to four Cour miles wide and about twenty miles long Its water supply is obtained obtained ob ob- from the Ibapah mountains one of ol the highest ranges in Utah the highest peak bein beina about feet There are about acres of pastures pastures pas pas- tures and farming lands the chief crops being hay grain and potatoes The climate is invigorating as the nights are always cool and during the hunting and fishing season many come from the large cities to hunt deer and grouse and fish for trout in the clear streams The Ibapah mountains form the east side of the valley and taper to the northward through the Clifton Gold Hill and Dutch mountain ranges The mining activities of the section section sec sec- tion center in and about Gold hill the chief town of the western part of Tooele county and the terminus of the Deep Creek railway from Wendover Wendover Wend Wend- over 45 miles away Gold Hill was named from the gold extracting smelter ter which was built there in very early days Authentic information is not available at this writing but old settlers claim that many thousand tons of gold ore went through the smelter yearly and left in its surrounding the Palmer Gold mine are being developed with the belief beliel that there is also gold bearing veins of 01 high values on these properties South of Gold Hill lull six or eight miles is
