Show MINING CAN WEATHER j THE STORM. The fact that certain mining leaders lead-ers have expressed themselves as viewing 1933 with a certain amount of optimism, gives thought of what the mining states can do for the industry. in-dustry. They can't, of course, create a do-; mand for metals and they can't solve the problems of surplus stocks, ruinous ruin-ous prices and tariffs. They can, however, how-ever, make it as easy as possible for the industry to weather present storms by wise legislative and tax policies. At various times, in the past, the industry has had serious difficulties difficul-ties because of over-zealous law passing pass-ing and tax theories such measures now would serve only to force additional addi-tional retrenchment. We need the mines. We need the employment they give, the purchasing purchas-ing power that stems from them and reaches into every 1'ier industry, in-1 to farming, into every human occu-, pation. To give the mines a hand now! is not charity it's simply enlighten-1 ed self interest. j |
