Show Prowling Cougar Killed Near Manti Getting out of bed at 3 o'clock in the morning in the winter time to find out what is the matter of a whining whin-ing dog, is something of a pesky, aggravating ag-gravating business non-interesting on most, occasions, but not so with Otto Ottosen last Monday morning, according to the Manti Messenger. At the early hour of 3 on that morning, Mr. Ottosen was rudely awakened from pleasant repose by the whining and yelping of his watch dog. Although he was at first disposed dis-posed to ignore the whimpering of the animal, he finally relented and crawled crawl-ed from the quilts of his warm bed. No sooner had Mr. Ottosen opened the outside doors than the dog rush-e-d in on the wings of a frozen wnnd and took up a position under the bed, where he proceeded to shiwer and whine. In spite of the cold night and the thinness of the man's dress he looked out into the night to discover if possible the reason for his dog's partial paralysis. Apparently none existed, for he could see nothing to frighten either man or beast. Having Hav-ing satisfied himself that things were as they should be, Mr. Ottosen returned return-ed to his bed, where he slept peacefully peace-fully until seven in the morning, when he rose to put the dog out Upon opening the door he saw- a cougar pass in front of the house and climb a tree inside the fence. He shot the animal and brought it into town for public inspection. It was a fine specimen, measuring IV2 feet from the tip of its nose to the tip of its tail. Strange as it may seem, the animal remained near the Ottosen home for at least four hours. It's tracks showed that it had been around the house, under un-der the trees, near the porch and on the1 porch near the door and window. The corral and pens were full of sheep and cattle, none of which were molested by the cougar. 1 |
