Show GO SLOW. It is now generally known that federal fed-eral taxes must be increased to take care of the shrinking national income, and that economy is in order. Yet, in spite of this, we see every day or so, bills introduced for the expenditure of hundreds of million dollars, with the excuse that such expenditure will help lift the depression. j It is not to be forgotten that every dollar appropriated and spent wiil have to be raised from the American people by taxation. For this reason it behooves Congress to move slowly in making appropriations. Fortunately the present Congress seems to be in a fairly sane mood so far as the expenditure ex-penditure of public money is concern- j ed. A continuance of that mood will go a long way toward dissipating the iuea prevalent in many quarters that Congress- is a nuisance. |
