Show Record Snowstorm Sweeps Over Valley The bannen storm of the entire! winter visited Gunnison Saturday n'ght and Sunday, and late Sunday evening when the elements had sub-s'ded, sub-s'ded, fully six inches of new snow covered the ground. The storm broke late Saturday afternoon and the Gunnison Gun-nison valley was swept with a swift velocity and heavy winds, creating drifts as high as two feet or more. Reports from the mountains, while unofficial, state that fully a foot of new snow fell during the storm. The total snowfall through the valley and in the mounta:ns for the winter now exceeds and nearly breaks all records for the past ten years. Sunday's snow did not reach very far north, but was confined to points south of Nephi and as far as Kanab, the latter getting an exceptionally heavy fall, resulting in blocking the highway between the summit and Kanab. Salina and Richfield report a heavier fall than at northern points. 1 , Salina est:mated the fall at about ; eight inches, and lower Sevier county had between 10 and 14 inches. ' In the swamps at the head of the Gunnison reservoir, where ice an' snow freezes, conditions are extraor- dinarily good, as compared with the past several years, and farmers are rejoicing over the fine prospects for the coming season. j While the snow was heavy throughout through-out Southern Utah, there were no blockades, excepting at the summit south of Panguitch. Road workers were out immed:ately after the storm and generally the highways were cleared in a few hours. j |
