Show SUGAR FARMERS NEED TARIFF. More than 100,000 farmers are tilling till-ing 800;000 acres of ground devoted to sugar beets in this country, according ac-cording to Stephen H. Love, president presi-dent of the American Beet Sugar association. as-sociation. To enable this growing industry to prosper with resulting benefit to the thousands of farmers and wage workers, work-ers, the present slight tariff on Cuban Cu-ban sugar must be increased. If the tariff should be abolished, as suggested by the Cuban government, govern-ment, sugar prices in this country would be controlled by a foreign government and our home industry destroyed. |
