Show Impressive Services For John P. Jensen Impressive funeral services were held at the Gunnison Valley high school auditorium last Saturday afternoon af-ternoon at one o'clock, when final rites were held for John P. Jensen. Hyrum Christiansen, of the Gunnison ward bishopric, was in charge. The auditorium was well filled with sor-! rowing friends and relatives, and throughout the tribute paid to the fellow citizen was laudatory and in keeping with the life of the one who had been called. Bishop Jos. A. Larson of the Hamilton Ham-ilton ward, President Chas. S. Hansen, Han-sen, and I. L. Henrie, as the principal speakers, paid a loving tribute to Mr. Jensen. The song services were . befitting be-fitting to the occasion, and comprised compris-ed the following by a quartet: "Beautiful "Beau-tiful Zion," "My Father Knows," and "Sometime We'll Understand." A vocal vo-cal solo, "I Have Read of a Beautiful City," was impressively given by E. L. Swalberg. Invocation . was offered by J. L. Foote, benediction by Ed. Morgan, and the grave ceremony was given by Hans C. Olsen. ' John P. Jensen, 61 years old, died at his home last Thursday morning, following an illness of several months. He suffered much from chronic rheumatism, rheu-matism, and a sudden heart attack Thursday is believed to have resulted in his death. Mr. Jensen was born in Gunnison, January 7, 1871, the son of Rasmus and Inger Hansen Jensen. After he grew to manhood, he followed various occupations, farming, stockraising, and of late he became interested in chicken raising. He was a staunch member of the L. D. S. church, having served as counselor in the Sunday school super-intendency, super-intendency, president of the third quorum quo-rum of. elders, member of the ward genealogical committee and a ' ward teacher. On July 7, 1897, he was married to Lenora Anderson of.. Gunnison, who passed away in 1924. On May 15, 1931, he married Carrie Tollestrup, the ceremony having been performed at the Manti temple. Surviving are the widow, Carrie Tollestrup Jensen, and two sons, Marlowe Mar-lowe Jensen of Salt Lake and Glyn-don Glyn-don Jensen of Salina. Seven grandchildren grand-children and three sisters, Mrs. Ida Childs and Mrs. Lena Foote of Gunnison, Gun-nison, and Maria Sorenson of Center-field, Center-field, are also left to mourn the loss. |
