Show DELAYED JUSTICE. Massachusetts is faced with a growing congestion of court cases which delays final action for several years, according to the report of the Judicial Counsel of the state, which has been filed with Governor Allen. The report points out that the cost I of administering justice is mounting and raises the question of how much longer the taxpayers will stand foi this condition. The congestion seems to have become be-come chronic as a result of the Massachusetts Mas-sachusetts motor vehicle insurance law. Delay of two or three years after a case is filed before judgment can be obtained, the report continues, contin-ues, causes hardship and practically i a denial of justice to individuals, and affects the life of the community in other way? j The cost of courts, prisons, parole boards and other similar institutions is said to reach an annual total in Massachusetts of over $10,000,000. From this it would appear that all the people, whether they use automobiles auto-mobiles or not, are taxed a large sum which should rightfully be included in the arbitrary insurance rates established estab-lished by the state. States which are studying methods of solving the automobile accident problem, might well consider the relation re-lation between Massachusetts' tardy administration of justice and its compulsory com-pulsory automobile liability insurance law. |
