Show MAKE THE FLEXIBLE TARIFF FLEXIBLE. The ideal tariff is one which allows al-lows the greatest possible volume of trade between nations without lowering low-ering domestic wage scales and living standards. The present tariff is believed by many to be partly responsible for the business depression, and in need of correction to conform to economic law. ! The flexible provision of the tariff tar-iff act, by which the President has power to raise or lower duties to a degree, is sound in principle and should be an influence to stimulate trade. However, it is said that legal limitation to the extent of the President's Presi-dent's powers prevents any far-reaching action. Our export trade has too great an effect on national prosperity to allow it to be unduly tampered with. If our tariff needs revision, the sooner it is done the better it will be for all concerned. |
