Show SELF-HELP SUCCEEDS. The agricultural cooperative movement move-ment is marking rapid strides among dairy farmers. The United States National Milk Producers' federation now has 53 af- filiated cooperative dairy associations, associa-tions, with a total membership of more than 360.000 farmers distributed distribut-ed over 40 states. Their annual production pro-duction is valued at $.250,000,000. j More than 35 per cent of all cream-1 ery butter produced in the United States is manufactured by cooperative coopera-tive associations. About a quarter of the cheese is manufactured by cooperative coop-erative cheese factories. And about one-sixth of all the butter produced in this country last year was market- j ed by the five large cooperative sales agencies. t Progress such as this much of it j made in the face of some of the hardest hard-est times American agriculture has ever experienced is exceptionally encouraging. It indicates a willingness willing-ness to work, to expand, to progress and to try new 'deas on the part of farmers. It indicates, that the cooperative co-operative movement has been the most beneficial influence affecting agriculture in recent years. All other farm relief efforts may have failed or be in the process of failing but the cooperatives march on a testimonial testi-monial to the American farmer's spirit of independence and self-reliance. |
