Show STUDYING MINING ' PROBLEMS. Declaring that the mining and metal met-al manufacturing industries provide "the backbone of the. nation's tax structure,"and afford "greater possibilities possi-bilities for enlargement of the tax base than any other source," M. W. Kr:egh, chief of the tax division of the American Mining Congress, said that Congress and the legislatures should "so frame their taxation and business laws as to permit the freest and largest exploitation and development develop-ment of mineral resources. Mr. Kreigh quoted figures from the last statistics of income issued by the 1 Bureau of Internal Revenue which showed that "of a total taxation revenue reve-nue amounting to over $3,000,000,000 collected by Federal, State and local governments from business and indus trirl corporations, $778,000,000 is de rived from companies engaged in the natural resources and related indus-tr:es. indus-tr:es. Of this amount, $506,817,039 is derived from mining, metals and me tal products companies." Civilization could not have pro gressed to its present proportions j without metals. The need for taxa-j taxa-j tion measures which encourage mining min-ing is clearly apparent. 1 |
