Show Gunnison Citizen Dies at Sail Lake Marenus Beam-egard, widely known throughout Southern Utah, and a prominent resident of Gunnison ' for the past 25 years, died at the Holy Cross hospital at Salt. Lake at era o'clock this, Thursday, morning. Death resulted from a cancer, from which Mr. Beauregard had suffered sine; being stricken with the "flu" last October. Oc-tober. He was taken to Salt Lake January Jan-uary 19 for examination and treat- ment. He submitted to a slight oper-tion, oper-tion, but little good resulted. Since that time he had been sinking and death relieved his suffering this morning. morn-ing. Mr. Beauregard had always enjoyed en-joyed good health, being hale and hearty all the time and the sudden change resulting in his death, will be mourned by hundreds of warm friends. Mr. Beauregard was a native cf Denmark and was bom at Mirah, Copenhagen, February 18, 1852. When 11 years of age he, with his parents, came to America, locating at Fillmore. Fill-more. The family remained there until un-til 1885, when they went to Sterling. Twenty-five years ago Mr. Beauregard Beaure-gard removed to Gunnison and . had made this city his home continuously. Marenus Beauregard occupied offices offi-ces of trust during his younger years, serving as trustee at Sterling and as councilman in Gunnison. He was known as the "Father of Water" for Gunnison, being one of the foremost and active in getting the water system sys-tem to the city. He was also instrumental instru-mental in promoting the electric lighting light-ing system for this city. -He also engaged en-gaged in farming and stock raising. In politics he was most active and he took part in many campaigns. The remains will be brought to Gunnison Friday and will be accompanied accom-panied by members of the family. No arrangements have as yet been made for burial. Marenus Beauregard is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Joseph Donui-son Donui-son of Gunnison, Mrs. H. A. And. c-son c-son of Rigby, Idaho, and Mrs. C. T. Hoff of El Paso, Texas, and two sons, M. D. Beauregard and Mina Beauregard, Beaure-gard, both of Gunnison. Two sisters and a brother, residing at Fillmore and in California, are also left as survivors. |
