Show Universal Draft Law Would Have Effect of Taking Profit Out of War By EDWARD E. SPAFF.URD, Commander American Legion. Enactment of a universal law would be a move for peace. If this lull is enacted into law it will drive the profit out of war. It will prevent slackers and it will indicate that if we are driven, into another war we will enter with every resource which we have. It means that when war is declared, the lessons of this last war will not be forgotten. The American Legion does not want to draft capital and does not want draft labor, but it does want absolute control over both so that prices will remain stabilized in case we enter another war. We want every man to work or fight and in the basic law there must be no provision pro-vision for exemption between the ages of twenty-one and thirty. |
