Ephraim at Elsinore. Gunnison's crack ball team took a strong hold on second place in. standing stand-ing of the Southern Utah Baseball league Sunday when they walloped Ephraim to the tune of 9 to 3. The game was played at Ephraim and many fans from Gunnison saw their favorites climb to victory. Erickson, as usual, was in splendid splen-did form and was the "large" one in winning the game for Gunnison. He fanned nine men, made a homer, a 3-bagger, and was not responsible for any runs credited to the opponents, handling the nine innings, allowing Ephraim but two hits. Erickson had good backing, too, and his mates were in the collar to defeat the college city lads. Faux, pitching for Ephraim, proved easy for the Gunnison sluggers, and the willow flew viciously for 14 hits, nine of which brought in counters. The hits off Faux, however, were (Continued on last page) COLLEGE CITY TEAM LOSES TO LOCAL NINE (Continued from page 1.) scattered, and Gunnison failed in two innings, the 2nd and Tlh, in making tallies. Another game, important from every standpoint, due to the keen rivalry, will be played on the Gunnison Gunni-son diamond next Sunday afternoon. Gunnison still holds the Sevier county lads in a tight grip, but the Sevier-ians, Sevier-ians, after the thorough gruelling they had with Nephi last Sunday when the latter won by a single score,, believe they can entertain the locals. Naturally, Natur-ally, a battle between Gunnison and: Salina is a big attraction and a rec- ord crowd is expected. J |
