Show I Recent Report Shows Parents Lack Interest In Count of Utah's Babies Are there 5000 Utah families in which the parents do not have suf- ficient interest in the future social, legal and economic welfare of their i children to provide for their birth ! registration ? Officials of the state board of health asked this question recently I when receipts of "Register Your Baby" Ba-by" campaign cards reached a total of approximately 7000 after four weeks of active effort to have parents par-ents fill in and mail the cards that assure a child born within the last 12 months of birth registration. "It seems incredible that even a single parent would neglect this op-. op-. i-ortunity to assure his child of all the advantages of citizenship obtainable through a birth certificate," said Dr. T. B. Beatty, state health commissioner commis-sioner and campaign manager. "Surely "Sure-ly such assurance is worth- the mini ute of time and effort it takes to fill in and mail the campaign card, postage post-age free." 1 Dr. Beatty, in urging evsry appli cable parent who has not answered a campaign card to do so at once, stressed the fact that no obligation of any sort is incurred by the parents. He pointed out that in answering a card no parent, even though the birth I of his child has not been registered through the regular channels, need fear reprisals being taken for such j non-registration, or any so-called comeback of any nature. "There is no colored individual lurking in the woodpile in this campaign," cam-paign," said Dr. Beatty. "What we are doing is solely in the interest of j Utah children, without a single thought of calling any parent to task or in any manner embarassing or entangling en-tangling them." According to Dr. Beatty, the federal feder-al government's part in the campaign cam-paign is one of cooperation with the state board of heatlh an effort to assist the state to obtain a 100 per cent birth registration and therepy assure every Utah child of full citi- I zenship rights. It is, he said, an entirely en-tirely non-partisan movement. |
