Show Capitol Eotarians Hear Southern Utah Knocked Evidently "Kink" Bill KisheT, who is endeavoring to "bite" the life out of everything in the way of advancing advanc-ing Southern Utah's ficenic wonderland, wonder-land, has added another co-worker in his vain enveavors. The new pupil I is one Charles Tyng, supp osed to be one of Utah's boosters. M r. Tyng, at a luncheon meeting of the Rotary club at Salt Lake Tuesday of this week, severely criticised ther action permitting the Auto Club of .Southern .South-ern California to sign Utah r-oat's. He charged that the Scenic HJg;lyway association as-sociation is controlled by t he Southern South-ern California club, according to statements published in the Tribqne of Wednesday. Mr. Tyn.g, continuing continu-ing his "rampant" declared, in 5o many words that Southern; U i:ah -q-ess 0 not entitled to a tourist and "squealed" "squeal-ed" because so many tourists were being routed through the southern and central part of Utah, much to the detriment of Salt Lake City, and he rapped the state road commission for granting the auto club of California Cali-fornia the privilege of signing the roads. Mr. Tyng particularly assailed the use of the name "Arrowhead Trail," on the signs that are to be placed, and commenting, said: "The Arrowhead trail is the California Cali-fornia name of the road," "It is known on the maps and logs of the Blue Book as the Zion Park highway and is so designated by the Ameri- (Continued on page 5) Capitol Rotarians Continued from page 1) can Automobile association. Use of the name 'Arrowhead trail' means the loss of valuable advertising to the state of Utah." Slamming another nail into the en-.deavor en-.deavor to boost the only scenic part of Utah the Grand Canyon, Bryce Canyon, Fish Lake and other features fea-tures that the tourists are seeking, Mr. Tyng complains because travel is being routed from Price to Salina and Cove Fort. Don't you think Mr. Tyng, after making a study of Utah and her attractive features, that the well versed tourist knows what he wishes to see? And can he see the state's wonders by traveling up through the city, where the rulers ( ? ) live, and out over the bleak and sand ridden deserts of Nevada? He deplored the fact that the state road commission was too poor to aid in building a highway through the Uintah basin and he wants to add one cent to the gasoline tax to aid in building the road through the sparsely settled sections which have no scenic attractions. Continuing he stamped the concrete road between Nephi and the Juab county line as useless, saying that gravel would have been sufficient. Throughout his argument Mr. Tyng condemned everything, mostly souih of Salt Lake in the way of secnery and highways. Mr. Tyng should know that Utah has much to offer in the way of attractions at-tractions to the traveling public and those seeking recreation can find to his utmost satisfaction and happiness those very attractions only in Southern South-ern Utah, and his attitude in taking his stand against routing travel through the scenic parts is entirely out of tune. But supposing the auto club of j Southern California is beaten in its purpose in signing the highways. Are the residents of Southern Utah going to stand by and see the state, or the southern part, killed and deprived de-prived of development for the sake of a few at the capitol city and for the benefit of those in Northern California Cali-fornia who could forever condemn all i highways leading south from Salt Lake ? Not alone will the Lions club of Salina, but sister clubs at Gunnison and Mt. Pleasant and the Commercial Commer-cial clubs of all Southern Utah are to take stand against the continual discrimination and if need be similar action will be taken as has been done at Ely boycott the big interests who are fighting them. Every business man, every farmer, every club member in Southern Utah wants the development of Utah on a large scale. Everyone wants to see I Salt Lake grow, but none wishes to see his own section and cities sacrificed sac-rificed for that one purpose. Were it not for the rural sections where would the city be? Where, Mr. Tyng, does your city get its real support, from the travelers or from those who produce and develop the state? The citizens of Salina, and in fact all Southern Utah, are getting very much "heated" over the attitude of the continual "knocking" of Southern South-ern Utahs highways and if Salt Lake will join in and help aid in building the state and cease playing to the few, then, and only then will our state develop as she should. Let's try it. Salina Sun. |
