Show Start Real Work On Highway Project After months and months of delay, the final signal was given to start real-honest-to-goodness work on the Gunnison and Axtell highway project. Word was received by Gwynne Lewis, resident engineer, from the head offices offic-es of the state road commission at Salt Lake last Saturday that everything every-thing was d. k., that the funds had been received from the county and to start work at once. Ted Rowland, foreman for the con-troctors, con-troctors, Reynolds-Ely company, and who came in from Ft. Green last wee k with a caravan of teams, trucks, men and other paraphernalia, started his crew to work Monday of this week. The scene of the first operations op-erations will be at the north entrance ot the city limits and over the new survey routing. There is about a mile of graveling to be done at this point and it will start just at the turn at the head of Main street. Plans, too, are being made to start' at once on the culverts and bridges on the route below the city. Filling for the new grade at the bottom bot-tom of the hill on South Main street and the structures for culverts will be taken up shortly. The matter of making the grade, with the eighteen foot regulation gravel road from the south end of the concrete to the sugar factory is being considered by the state road commission. This matter has just recently been taken up and if it is finally decided to carry out the plan the road will be one of the best in the southern section. By the first of the coming week it it thought that the finishing touches will be made on the concrete work at Ft. Green, and then the contractors, contract-ors, the Reyonlds-Ely company, will move the entire eqiupment to Gunni-sone Gunni-sone and work will be started on. the concrete work in this city. |
