Show Local Lions Club Sponsors Dairying If the plans now being outlined and carried out, and there is every reason to believe they wiil, Gunnison Valley, within the next few years, will be one of the state's leading dairying centers . Enthusiasm is being be-ing highly manifest in the movement move-ment and co-operation is coming forth from nearly every quarter of the valley. With the Gunnison Lions club sponsoring the movement, the committee, with N. L. Herman- sen as cnairman, ana u. m. towards to-wards and Mayor Christiansen assisting, as-sisting, a line of education has been put forth during . the week and plans are being formulated to bring some 300 head of high class dairy cows to the valley within the next year. A plan of financing the movement is also among the duties of the committee com-mittee and it is intimated that this feature is meeting with success. With the beet crop almost a failure fail-ure and with no cash crop to meet the expenses falling due at the end of the year, it will be the purpose of the committee from the Lions club, together with the co-operation of the farmers and business men, to start the dairying business on a large scale, and work out plans that will add other features that will bring the valley out of the distressed period. peri-od. In addition to the dairy business, busi-ness, the plan is being advanced that farmers not only add high class dairy cows, but that they have hogs, sheep, chickens on a smalll scale as a starter start-er and later develop on a larger scale. In addition to the items named the farmer could grow a patch of five or ten acres of beets, have his alfalfa and grain patch and raise I sufficient feed to care for the flocks ! and herds on his farm . When the plan is finally arranged and started it is proposed to supply the farmers ! with a good market where fairness and justice will be meted to all. ! There are a few plans to be worked out by the committee as yet, and when these are completed it is in-I in-I tended to have a mass meeting at which time the matter will be taken : up with the farmers and others in-I in-I terested in further development of ; the industries of the valley, j |
