Ferguson, impeached governor of 1917, has been finally passed pass-ed by the house of representatives. It now goes to Governor Dan Moody for his signature, the measure having passed the senate several days ago. The vote was 78 to 25. Proponents of the repealing measure, mea-sure, of which Senator Tom Love o Dallas was the author, executed a surprise sur-prise move, calling up the measure which was the subject cf a bitter fight before the engrossment early in the day; and it passed with about tlm same majority. The amnesty bill, as passed by the thirty-ninth legislature, when Governor Gover-nor Miriam A. Ferguson, wife of Jame3 E. Ferguson, was in office, was intended in-tended to restore Ferguson to his Cornier political status, entitling him io-hold io-hold office- despite his impeachment of 1917. Governor Moody, while attorney general, gen-eral, held that the amnesty bill was unconstitutional. The "repealer" was the subject of the bitterest fight during the present fortieth legislature, and a small minority, min-ority, the remnants of Ferguson's adherents ad-herents of two year3 ago, sought delay de-lay in efforts to kill the measure, but vote was forced and the measure was passed. |
