Show Scout Organizer Making Surveys William B. Hawkins, deputy regional region-al executive of the Boy Scouts of America, spent last Friday afternoon and Saturday morning in this city, getting preliminary surveys of the scout movements and endeavoring to instill more activity with the citizens and boys eligible for the organization. organiza-tion. Deputy Hawkins is making a survey sur-vey and preparing to organize boy scouts of Southeastern Utah into a district council, similar to those in the northern part of the state and throughout the country This council, coun-cil, lie stated, would include all seout troops in Sanpete, Sevier, Piute, Wayne, Garfield, Carbon, Emery and San Juan counties. With these counties coun-ties all lined up it will aid materially in fostering the scout movement in this part of the state. While on the trip Mr. Hawkins intends to visit each town in the district for the purpose pur-pose of getting a general survey before be-fore real organization work is begun. The purpose of the organization, according to Mr. Hawkins, is to localize local-ize the governing power of the scout movement and to place scouting in this district upon the same sound basis as that in any other part of the United States. . District committees com-mittees are to be organized at local points, and will be composed of the chairmen of troop committees, and a minority of men at large. Representatives Rep-resentatives of district committees, along with others specially chosen, ;will form the district scout council. There is every reason why the scout movement should be backed by every good citizen in Gunnison. It should not only be organized but every moral and financial aid should be given the movement. The problems prob-lems of our boys is as important, or perhaps more so, than many other matters that are given hearty support. sup-port. When the time arrives for effecting ef-fecting the organization in this city arrives, it will be the duty of the citizens to get together and put the scout organization over with a frhoop. |
