Show Wattis Candidacy Favored In County V. H. Wattis, who has announced hi.s candidacy for governor of Utah and who will seek the nomination at the Republican state convention at Salt Lake City, August 20, accompanied accom-panied by Charles Morris, United States district attorney for Utah, spent Monday in this city conferring , with leading republicans. Mr. Wattis Wat-tis visited several of the towns in North Sanpete and was highly gratified grati-fied at the excellent reception given him. Not only did he meet with encouragement en-couragement in this county but throughout the state his candidacy is growing in favor and he felt highly optomistic as to the outcome of the convention. Mr. Wattis knows Southern Utah and he had no hesitancy in saying that this section was being overlooked, over-looked, to a degree, in so far as real state support was concerned. lie believes that selfishness should not be shown when highways leading to Utah's scenic attractions are to be considered and in as much as Southern South-ern Utah is now world-famed for its wonderful scenery, her highways .should be one of vital consideration. Mr. Wattis, who is general manager mana-ger for the Utah-Idaho sugar company, com-pany, and incidentally one of the leading sugar men of the state, was particularly impressed with the sugar beet situation'-jin the Gunnison valley. "Your farmers, are to be congratulated congratulat-ed with the method they have adopted," adopt-ed," said Mr. Wattis. "It shows industry in-dustry and thrift and when this is carried out as your beet growers are doing, it is sure to result in financial success. The fields throughout your valley are in splendid condition and there is every reason to believe that the valley will harvest a bumper crop." Messrs. Wattis and Morris spent several hours at the Gunnison sugar factory and were deeply impressed with the new improvements'" and changes that have, been made, preparatory pre-paratory to the big campaign which is to be started this fall. |
