Show PARENTS-TEACHERS VOTE FOR FEDERAL AID Federal aid to the states for the illiteracy il-literacy and the creation of a department depart-ment of education with a secretary 'n the President's cabinet as provided for in the Towner-Sterling education bill, were written into the planks of the legislative program adopted by the Congress of Parents and Teacher which held its annual session at Austin Aus-tin Texas, recently. The program, better known as the six "Ps" follows: Peace by reduction of armaments by international agreement; recodification recodi-fication of international law, and par ticipation in a permanen t world court of international justice. Prohibition: No change in the Volstead Vol-stead law to permit light wines and beer and protection for children from intoxicants. Protection from child labor: Federal Fed-eral .control by constitutional amendment amend-ment which placed the organization on record as re-opening the fight for the adoption of the proposed twentieth twen-tieth amendment. Physical education: Federal aid for physical education in public schools under the terms of the Fess-Capper physical education bill. Protection from drugs: Reduction of the production of opium and the cocoa plant supplying just enough narcoticis for scientific and medical needs. Public schools: Adopting (provisions (provi-sions of the Towner-Sterling educa- tion bill which provides for federal department of education with a secretary sec-retary in the president's cabinet; I Federal aid to states for elimination of illiteracy; Americanization of foreigners; for-eigners; physical education and train ing for teachers.' This is the second great Women's body to renew their faith in the federal fed-eral idea of education, the national League of Women voters having reaffirmed re-affirmed their stand at their annual meeting held recently at Richmond Virginia. |
